Esporta Takes Smoking Ban to The Next Level

Date: 25 Jan, 2008

Wokingham, January 25 - In keeping with its mission of improving the health and wellbeing of it members, Esporta has extended its non-smoking policy to include the outdoor areas of its 55 premium clubs across the country.

Chief Operating Officer, Steve Charlton said staff would be enforcing the policy to introduce a smoke free environment for all members and guests entering the grounds of its clubs up and down the country.

“We’ve never had smoking in our health clubs, but from the beginning of this year, we have completely banned smoking from any Esporta premises. Our outdoor swimming pools and tennis courts are now going to be completely smoke free so that people can enjoy the fresh air without having to breath in second-hand smoke.”

The smoking ban was enforced across the UK on July 1st, 2007, but research has shown that the country had already been moving to a culture where non-smoking is the norm.

Charlton added: “The NHS states that around 70% of smokers say they want to stop smoking, so by maximising the smoke-free area, we are doing our bit to help them to quit and achieve all the health and lifestyle benefits of stopping smoking, while preventing members from being exposed to second-hand smoke.”
