Kids Get Fit at Esporta

Date: 20 July, 2005

Esporta has launched a brand new programme of fitness activity designed specifically for under-16s.  The programme, named Esporta Fit Crew(tm), is currently on offer at the Royal County of Berkshire club in Bracknell, and if popular is set to be launched at further clubs across the country.

Fit Crew(tm) offers a range of dedicated classes including spinning, circuit training, and weights, as well as use of specialised gym equipment for children in a clearly branded area.  Classes are led by an instructor specially trained in providing fitness coaching to young people, and are run every weekday evening and weekend mornings.

In total, children following Fit Crew(tm) should spend a minimum of 70% of their time in programmed classes, and a maximum of 30% using equipment under the supervision of an instructor.

After attending an induction and three sessions each child will receive a certificate, plus the choice of a badge or wristband to recognise their achievement.  Currently the programme is being aimed at young people between the ages of 12 and 15; however sessions are also planned for children aged 8 to 11.

Mark Talley, group health and fitness manager for Esporta, commented:
"At Esporta, we recognise the need to offer fitness training to people of all ages.  Many health clubs tend to ignore children.  However, we feel that it's important to encourage kids to be active and develop good habits from an early age, particularly given the current focus on childhood health and activity.  Fit Crew(tm) offers a well-balanced programme of activity, and is a great way of giving young people the opportunity to train with support and careful guidance."
