The official opening of the £14 million Gloucestershire Health and Racquets Club took place on Sunday 16 March with an unveiling ceremony attended by members and employees of the new premium club. The ceremony was part of a celebratory family fun day for members consisting of a wide range of activities and entertainment for all ages from family tennis and exercise classes to face painting and balloon sculpting. The event was also linked to Sports Relief, and many attending the day took part in the mile challenge of either running, cycling or rowing a mile for the Sports Relief charity.
With over 84,000 square foot of indoor space, The Gloucestershire Health and Racquets Club possesses a wider range of top quality facilities than any other club in the locality. Tennis is a major feature of the club with its six indoor tennis courts and three outdoor tennis courts (two acrylic and one Astroturf). Within a very short space of time, The Gloucestershire has become an LTA Performance Accredited Club, and already has over 100 children in its Junior Performance Academy including 49 of the leading youth and junior tennis players from across the county and surrounding areas, all aspiring to become the next Wimbledon hopeful.
Esporta CEO Glenn Timms said: "It is a delight and a privilege to officially open this splendid new facility for the people of Cheltenham and Gloucester. The Gloucestershire Health and Racquets Club is a wonderful place to come and enjoy a more healthy lifestyle, spend time with the family and participate in a wide range of exercise and social activities. As the leading premium health club provider, Esporta is delighted to establish The Gloucestershire as the venue of choice for anyone seeking the best in health and well-being in the area."
The club possesses a 25-metre indoor swimming pool, a 20-metre heated outdoor swimming pool, as well as a luxurious sauna, steam room and spa together with an immanent Health and Beauty facility. The club's fitness arena houses over 165 pieces of state-of-the-art equipment, and three studios, two for aerobics, yoga and various other classes, and one for spinning classes. With its crèche with outdoor play area, The Club is very much geared to the family, with a strong programme in place to keep the children active and entertained. And in the centre of the club is a modern and airy lounge with a bar and restaurant serving a full food menu from breakfast through to the evening meals.
