Esporta Packs a Punch with 2004 Figures

Date: 16 Feb, 2005

Sales are up 7.3% to £168.3m at premium health club Esporta after just over one year with a new management team at the helm of the previously ailing operator.

New joiners were up 7% in a tough market that has been the subject of much speculation over the past 18 months.  Esporta also reports that members are spending more time in its clubs resulting in an increase in revenue per member and retention rates have also improved by 2% points.

CEO Neil Gillis attributes this performance to a number of areas: "Esporta has maintained its policy of non-discounting; optimising its customer service provision; member retention policies and the overall improvement in club standards.

"We have had a good year despite tough market conditions and this is all due to the hard work and commitment of the staff throughout the business.  We have paid out a record £1.2m in staff incentives and bonuses."

Esporta is actively looking to expand its racquets businesses in 2005 and have a fund of £100m earmarked for the acquisition of new racquet sites.
