Esporta has today announced that it is to acquire the First Active Health & Leisure Club at Thorpe Wood, Peterborough. The terms of the deal are not disclosed but Esporta has announced that it will invest £4.6 million in the club, which will become the 54th in its network.
Neil Gillis, Chief Executive of Esporta, said: “Peterborough is a key destination for us. It’s one of the fastest growing and most dynamic places in the country and I am delighted we’ll be able to give local people the chance to enjoy Esporta’s ‘club-class’ standards of service and facilities.”
The refurbishment of the club will include building eight tennis courts as well as the updating of the existing facilities. Work will start almost immediately. Plans also include an outdoor pool, two dance studios, new changing facilities and a new bar and lounge area.
The investment in the Peterborough club is part of Esporta’s commitment to the East of England. In June a new club opens in Norwich, also the result of a £multi-million refurbishment.
Esporta is well known for its tennis academy programme which runs in many of its clubs, providing top class facilities and training for around 3,000 of the country’s brightest young tennis talent. Peterborough youngsters will now have a chance to join the programme.
