Clubs Within Clubs

Date: 02 June, 2005

Members of Esporta are taking advantage of its growing number of social clubs.  Proving that health clubs are now about more than just fitness, Esporta has introduced clubs for members at many of its 59 UK sites.

The concept, termed 'clubs within clubs' has seen the formation of clubs across the country including belly dancing, cookery, golf, French, darts, flower arranging, bingo, and fishing.  Esporta Bristol for example runs clubs for reading, comedy, photography, salsa dancing and a mothers' club, Esporta Glamorgan has surfing, wine tasting, and mountain biking clubs, and Esporta Gloucester runs quiz nights, film nights, and a bridge club.

The clubs are run on a bespoke basis with Esporta managers assessing interest before putting a club together.  At Bristol, members are invited to register their interest in an idea at the reception desk, before the Member Services manager liaises with all those interested to confirm dates and times.

Marketing director, Scott Wallace commented:
"Our health clubs are now about more than just physical fitness.  We see them forming a core part of the local community.  Feedback from our members indicates that they are looking for a social experience, so it's important to us that members see their Esporta club as a social venue and part of their overall lifestyle.  It's our responsibility to monitor their needs and lifestyle demands, providing for these where possible.

"The 'clubs within clubs' concept has expanded rapidly this year, and the number of social clubs that we run is constantly increasing.  Health clubs are diversifying, and we already offer health and beauty, and restaurant facilities at most of our sites.  Offering social clubs is just part of this diversification process, adding value for our members."
